OC Bowl Flag Football Rules

NUMBER OF PLAYERS:

We’ll take as many as we can get. We also anticipate walk-ons that are not originally accounted for. We usually get about 25 players. We’ll either go 5, 6 or 7 persons per team. It’s good to have at least one (1) sub on each team as some of us are 40+ years old.

LENGTH OF GAME:

Playing time is 44 minutes, separated into two halves of 22 minutes. Half-time will be 5 minutes. There will be a running clock for the entire first half, and the first 20 minutes of the second half. The last 2 minutes of the second half will follow NIRSA timing rules (similar to NCAA Football). A coin toss determines who gets first possession. Important: Please arrive at the field no later than 8:40 a.m. so we can get going at 9:00a.m. Several people will be there at 8:15 a.m. with coffee and donuts.

FIRST DOWNS, GENERAL RULES:

The offensive team takes possession of the ball at its 5-yard line and has three plays to cross midfield. Once a team crosses midfield, it has three plays to score a touchdown. If the offense fails to score, the ball changes possession and the new offensive team takes over on its 5-yard line. All possession changes, except interceptions, start on the offense’s 5-yard line. Interceptions may be returned.

RUSHING THE QB:

All players who rush the passer must be a minimum of seven yards from the line of scrimmage when the ball is snapped. Any number of players can rush the quarterback. Players not rushing the quarterback may defend on the line of scrimmage. Quarterback MAY NOT run with the ball. We’re counting “7 Dirt Bowls” to rush the QB. Every play must be a pass. No running plays. Also, no blocking or tackling is allowed.

OVERTIME (TIE GAME):

If the game score is tied after regulation time, we’ll toss a coin to determine who will get the ball & side. First to score wins. Period.

SCORING:

Touchdown: 2 points
Safety: 1 point
(no extra points, field goals or 2-point conversions)

Questions or Comments of the rules can be discussed a.m. before the game.
